James Brokenshire MP
Member of Parliament for Hornchurch


James Brokenshire was elected to serve Hornchurch & Rainham as the Member of Parliament in May 2005. He is an active campaigner on a number of local issues, most notably to ensure the St George’s Hospital remains as a health facility and to stop overdevelopment in Rainham and other parts of the constituency.

He has supported local campaigns to keep schools open, to stop the closure of post offices across the local area and to prevent mobile phone masts from being put up in inappropriate sites in Hornchurch.

James is also aware of the need for more police on the streets of Hornchurch to combat crime and the fear of crime.

James is married to Cathrine and the couple have three children - Sophie (2002), Jemma (2005) and Benjamin (2006).
Outside of politics, James gained significant experience of business and industry working as a solicitor at a large international law firm, advising a wide range of companies from small start-up businesses to large international concerns.

Born in Southend in 1968, he was educated at Davenant Foundation Grammar School and the Cambridge Centre for Sixth Form Studies before graduating with an honours degree in law from the University of Exeter.
